Shark Week Ooo Haha

Shark Week Ooo Haha

Well, I can’t believe it’s almost here. July = Shark week! We could not be more excited because in our home, shark week is the biggest week of the entire year! Yes, bigger than birthdays and even bigger than Christmas!

My youngest son has heart disease and spent essentially the first eight months of his life in the hospital having multiple surgeries including an open heart surgery. He kept having complication after complication and when he was almost 7 months old, The doctors wanted to take him down for yet another surgery. I knew he was weak. I knew he couldn’t take very much more. Shark week was happening the next week and I asked the doctors to give me a week of no procedures, no trying out new things, just a week of happiness and peace that I could have with my child. After all, his name was Finn.

Little Finn, like a shark fin, had always loved anything water but especially SHARKS. He began watching Octonauts in the hospital every morning at 6 AM. He loved it! And anytime a shark would come on the TV, he would be very happy! This was also when we introduced him to the movie Finding Nemo. He was totally enchanted by all of the sea creatures but especially the sharks. We thought it was so fitting that his name also resembled a similar name to the fin of a shark!

So shark week came, and I made a bucket list of things that I wanted to do with him. Things that I didn’t think he would ever be able to do given all of his medical issues. Simple things like being outside, touching grass, seeing bubbles, going to the beach. Slowly, over the course of that week, and with the help of lots of amazing prayer warriors, we were able to do everything on our list and celebrate shark week. It was such an amazing and happy week. I know it seems weird being happy in the hospital, but after everything we have been through it just meant so much. Shark Week was a therapy for all of us and continues to be for Finn!

So here we are coming up on our fourth shark week with Finn and so much has happened since the first experience in the hospital. Discovery Channel has embraced him as their smallest shark fan! The Atlantic White Shark Conservatory (who does research for the Discovery Channel) even named a shark after Finn! It’s been so cool to follow him as he makes his appearances often on around the Cape Cod area. Our friends at Baby Jack even named and created a shark lovey after Finn that our Prayer followers via Prayers for Finn purchased as a fundraiser and donating them to kids at hospitals to encourage them to Just Keep Swimming. It’s a tradition that has been three years in the making now and we would love to continue bringing smiles with Baby Jack loveys hospitals all over with Baby Jack!

BUY ONE LOVEY FOR YOU - WE DONATE AN OCEAN LOVEY TO FINN! CODE SHARKWEEK

Sharks resemble our little boy in so many ways. They are the king of the ocean. They are resilient. Nutrition means everything to them for survival. And they are so tough, just like my little boy.

So this year we have some really amazing things planned - including Baby Jack working with Finn to give back their NEW OCEAN LOVEYS to kids in hospitals. On top of that, there are MANY more surprises planned so join us this year as we make shark week the best we’ve ever had! There will be travel involved, there will be real sharks, there will be shark fundraisers and shark hospital visits. We might even have some fun with sharks!

It’s going to be a FINNtastic and jawesome week so stay tuned!
